Signs your shower needs regrouting
You usually don’t need a new bathroom. You need the grout and silicone replaced. Here’s what to look for.
- 01Cracked or missing grout Gaps in the joints are a straight path for water behind the tiles.
- 02Grout that won’t come clean If scrubbing doesn’t shift the black or yellow, the stain is in the grout, not on it.
- 03Silicone pulling away Corners and the base line go brittle and lift. That’s where most leaks start.
- 04Mould that keeps coming back Bleach kills the surface. The spores are in the grout underneath.
- 05Drummy or loose tiles A hollow sound when you tap a tile means water’s been getting behind it.
- 06Damp walls or stains next door Water in the hallway wall or the ceiling below is the shower, nine times out of ten.
